Over the years I have created various books which cover the main UK Singles chart, broken down by decade. Each of these books are available below, together with details of their content.
Contents
Each volume, which cover charts dated during the decade in question, contains up to a Top 100 (for periods when a Top 100 was compiled and printed) and also covers complete chart data on the following:-
- Entry Date
- Peak Position
- Weeks On Chart
- Title (Including each entry broken down by re-entry as appropriate)
- Composer (Shown for most entries)
- B-Side (Shown for records charting physically)
- Label
- Catalogue Number
- Duration (Shown for most entries)
Each volume also contains statistical analysis of the individual decade, with a title listing, sorted alphabetically, and a listing of number 1 records. Do please look at the sample pages below for details of the contents.

The records that made the Record Retailer chart are shown here, together with those that made the Breakers chart – full listings even if they went on to make the main chart!
The records that made the Singles chart as printed in Music Week during the 1970’s are collected here, together with all the Breakers and Star Breakers for the first time. These show full listings even if they went on to make the main chart!
1980’s – covers the Top 100 only
The records that made the Singles chart as printed in Music Week during the 1980’s are collected here, together with the full Top 100 (so positions 76-100 of the Compressed chart) for 1983-1989 and the ‘Next 25’ in alphabetical order from 1981-1982.
This volume – my largest book yet – contains over 4,000 pages with the BMRB charts for 1980-1982, and then the complete Gallup Top 200 charts from 1983-1989, complete with panel sales. The book covers all Top 200 charts and lists the full weekly charts – including the starred out records, removed via exclusion rules in there proper place. The book adds up the panel sales for the chart run and is, quite simply, my favourite chart book.
This book does come a little more expensive, at £15, but I think you will agree that the huge page count makes it worth it. The book is delivered as a link, as the book is over 50Mb in size, due to the huge wealth of information. Virtually all entires include full B-Side listings, label, catalogue number and duration, although of course some entries do miss this due to the inability to locate the records concerned.
1990’s – covers the Top 100 only
The records that made the Singles chart as printed in Music Week, Record Mirror and Hit Music during the 1990’s are collected here, together with the full Top 100 (so positions 76-100 of the Compressed chart) for 1990-91, and then from 1992-1999. The gap in 1991-1992 is due to the sad closure of Record Mirror and the loss of the 76-100 positions.
2000’s – covers the Top 100 only
The records that made the Singles chart as printed in Music Week, Hit Music and ChartsPlus during the 2000’s are collected here, together with the full Top 100 (so positions 76-100 of the Compressed chart) from 2000-2009. From 2007, of course, with chart rules allowing downloads to chart, the Top 100 becomes the true Top 100 selling singles of the week, with many, many chart rules removed. This volume includes the rise of the Download singles, the X-Factor and the sad passing of Michael Jackson.
2010’s – covers the Top 100 only
The records that made the Singles chart as printed in Music Week and ChartsPlus during the 2010’s are collected here, together with the full Top 100 for each week during the decade.

70 Years Of The UK Singles Chart
In 2022, the UK Singles Chart turned 70, and to celebrate I created a series of volumes, one per year, with detailed information never before collated. When purchasing a decade of the series – or the whole set – the individual Decade Series UK Singles books are included with those volumes.
